RYAN HAD no idea how Will could casually walk back into the kitchen, get a refill on his coffee, and chat amiably with his parents after what he’d just done to Ryan in the garage. He himself must have been blushing from head to toe. He realized of course that Will had a lot more experience with sex than he did, but he suspected it was more than that—that Will had more experience hiding himself from his parents.
Somehow Ryan managed to drink coffee, eat pancakes and bacon, and talk to Gary and Diane as if he hadn’t just ejaculated into their son’s mouth, but he didn’t know how he pulled it off. He kept stealing glances at Will’s face, hoping perhaps to find some kind of commiseration there. But Will was always looking away. Ryan longed to say something to him—even just “Could you hand me the butter?”—to force him to make eye contact, but he kept balking at it, afraid he might accidentally reveal something.
He realized, for the first time since last night, that there was an inherent danger to what they were doing. If Gary and Diane found out…. Well, it was one thing to be supportive of Ryan being gay—quite another to be cool about him sleeping with their son. Would they ask him to move out? Worse, would they grow cold toward him? He’d thought he wanted to kill himself when his real parents turned their backs on him. Gary and Diane had saved him, given him a new family, one that felt closer and stronger than his old family ever had. Could he bear to lose that?
On the other hand, what he wanted more than anything right now was to get Will back into his bed, so they could pick up where they’d left off. That didn’t seem likely to happen until after the party tonight. How he was going to survive that long with this intense, almost painful longing already threatening to implode his chest, he had no idea.
He was stressing so much about this that he excused himself after breakfast to go into the living room and play the piano. It always relaxed him. He could sink into the beauty of Brahms or Bach or Debussy and forget himself. While he was playing Brahms’s “Intermezzo in B flat minor,” he sensed the others coming into the room and sitting down to listen. Gary and Diane often did this. They claimed it relaxed them. He didn’t know if Will liked classical piano, but when the piece was finished, he heard Will say, “That was amazing.”
Ryan turned to smile shyly at him. He found Will stretched out on the carpet, since his parents had claimed the sofa.
“Dude, I don’t know why you say you’re not good at anything. You have a beautiful voice, and you play really well.”
“There!” Gary said happily. “You see?”
Diane smiled at Will and said, “Maybe you can persuade him. We’ve been trying to encourage him to do something with all this talent he has, but he just won’t listen to us.
